This is traditionally the time of year for resolutions and goal-setting, thinking of things we want to accomplish before we turn the last page of the calendar. But before we all rush to send 2015 packing let’s take a moment to savor in the awesomeness this year brought into our lives.
I don’t know about you but 2015 has been an incredible year for me. It is heavily speckled with minute details that has helped shaped me into whatever I am today right now this very minute even as you read this post. It has recorded my highest and lowest moments in my life.
Looking back, I entered this year just like everybody alive and just in case you didn’t notice I’m alive typing this post. The difference is that I joined the rebels and bad-asses all around the world and entered the new revolution without any resolutions. To my surprise a lot happened without the routine, mechanical, expectation chant ritual I used to have every other 31st night I have spent in my conscious life.
I bought my first phone with my hard earned money (maybe not ‘hard earned’ but I put a lot in coming up with creative stories to tell to get that money). I took to fashion blogging. Got featured on over 87 blogs and websites. I reached over 1000 friends I actually know in person not including social media.
I performed spoken word poetry on every major stage in KNUST. Attended every church service in my final school semester in a suit. I almost missed one of my finals because i overslept and got to the exam hall about 30 minutes later. I graduated university, got my graduation featured as an article on a website.(Click here to see feature)
I failed for the first and only time in any exam which didn’t even tickle me. I started working (others call it national service). Completed my nation-wide tour of Ghana now I have been to every region in this country. I rode on a motorbike in the north. Almost got robbed on the highway. I made my first GHC2000 with my sweat and blood.
On the lighter side, I took over 4,000 selfies, swam in 17 differentswimming pools, ate from 36 restaurants, said over 4,745,000 words, laughed a lot and made people laugh. I caught feelings and she probably doesn’t like me. I slept least all my in this particular year. In short I did a lot and there probably are over 1000 other things I did I do not recall.
I am grateful for all the evenings that turned into mornings, the frowns that turned into laughter, the hunger that turned into satisfactions, the dreams that turned into accomplishments.I am grateful for the experiences I have gained, the lives I have touched, the gifts I have received, the smiles I have have brought but through it all I am thankful that I still have life to see a new year.
The experience of writing this list out brought a lot of smiles and happy memories to mind, so I highly recommend that YOU write your own! You don’t have to have a blog, just write it down on a piece of paper. Take a few moments to reflect on your accomplishments and meaningful experiences. Remember, you aren’t defined by what you HAVEN’T done, you’re defined by what you have done with the years you’ve already spent here on planet Earth.
If 2015 wasn’t your year don’t expect any better from 2016 with new resolutions but look to Jesus that in this coming revolution you will be cleared of all disillusions and see that He’s the solution. Catch you in 2016!
He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end. (Eccl 3:11)
